Parents Role

Parents play a major role in the success of the Pastoral Care Team. It is important to support them and help them to support their children. The parents in your school may have had a very differnt school experience to that of their child and informing them and getting their feedback is vital to the success of the team.

Outside Agencies

The Pastoral Care Team can provide a vital link between parents and agencies that can help their children if they are struggling in school.Parents might be very concerned about their children and be keen to do something about the issue but are unsure what to do. This is where the Pastoral care team can provide a supportive role to parents and the students by having access to differnt agencies designed to help students.some examples of these agencies can be seen on this blog page.

In/out programme

This programme is a system of communication between the Pastoral Care Team and the whole staff in relation to students who have particular needs at certain times. the In/Out lists are to help teachers become aware of students who may be struggling either in school or at home.It is important to note that the details of the students issues are confidential and do not need to be shared with staff. It is enough for the teachers to be aware that the student has an issue which might affect his/her work in school.

Communication

Communication between pastoral care team and the whole staff is vital for the success of the pastoral care team. However the team must be very aware of confidentiality and the limits to communication based on the child protection guidelines.

Important Values for a Pastoral care team

In my view a successful Pastoral care team sholud be first and foremost student centred. It should be accessible to the whole school community. The team has to be impartial, non judgemental and responsive.
